Santa Maria Assunta Church Positano

The story of this church is strictly linked to the origin of the Benedectine monastery of The Virgin Mary which, according to a legend, was built after the arrival in Positano of a Byzantine icon of the Virgin. The abbey might have been founded in the second half of Xth century and restored several times. The current look dates back to the last restoration works, finished in the nineteenth century
